From Watching Her Son to Finding Her Own Wheels
Kavitha’s journey into inline skating began with something beautifully simple: watching her son, Parik, skate. Seeing the joy he found when he put on his wheels inspired her to try something new herself.
“It’s never too late to learn and love something new,” she says.
After some hesitation, and quite a few falls, Kavitha began her own skating journey. She is still learning every day, embracing the process rather than rushing towards perfection. That same outlook eventually led her to becoming a trainer. Helping young beginners take their first steps, learn new skills and grow in confidence made her realise just how much she enjoys being part of their journey.
Making Learning Fun
For Kavitha, training is about much more than learning technique. It is about creating an environment where skaters feel comfortable, have fun and are not afraid to make mistakes. Especially with absolute beginners, one of her main goals is to help them feel confident and at ease when they put their skates on. She loves seeing the excitement on a young skater’s face when they accomplish something they have been working towards. For her, a great skater is not simply the fastest one. It is someone who keeps learning, whether from mistakes, challenges or successes, and continues trying to become a better version of themselves. Her sessions are therefore a chance to learn, have fun and make new friends along the way.
Building a Community on Wheels
Looking ahead, Kavitha hopes to bring skating even more into her own recreational life and be part of a community where skaters encourage and uplift one another. Her experience as a skating parent has shown her how contagious the joy of learning can be, and she believes that skating is at its best when people come together around that shared enthusiasm. Her advice to the Skatography community reflects this belief: focus not only on becoming better individual skaters, but also on building a community of learners, skaters and trainers who support each other and come together for the love of the sport. For Kavitha, that is what makes the journey worthwhile: learning, falling, improving and, above all, enjoying the ride.
