40 skaters and counting
The indoor inline speed skating classes at the Bankrashal in Amstelveen are going incredibly well. Today we had no fewer than 40 skaters on the track, which is fantastic to see. It is great to see so many people enjoying inline speed skating and becoming more confident on their skates.
A new challenge
With this many enthusiastic skaters, we are also facing a new challenge. We currently have three different levels skating at the same time. When everyone is in the right flow, this works surprisingly well, but with a group this size the track can become very busy. When instructions are not followed, this can also create situations that are not as safe as we would like.
Keeping it safe and fun
This is, of course, a great problem to have. But we don’t want to become victims of our own success. Our priority is to keep the classes safe, enjoyable and fun for everyone, while making sure that every skater gets the attention they need to improve.
A temporary pause in Amstelveen
For that reason, Skatography is temporarily putting a stop to new skaters joining the Amstelveen sessions. This gives us some breathing room to manage the different groups properly and maintain the quality and safety of the classes.
Beginners are welcome in Uithoorn
New skaters and beginners are very welcome to join us in Uithoorn on Saturdays. Total beginners can skate from 9:30 to 10:30, while slower recreational skaters can join from 10:30 to 11:30.
We will be back
This is a temporary measure. We will continue to monitor the situation in Amstelveen and look at how we can welcome more skaters again in the future. We are exploring the possibility of leasing more hours and/or have beginners skate on a location 200m furhter up.
Thank you!
Most importantly, thank you to everyone who has made the Amstelveen classes such a success. Seeing so many people discovering and enjoying inline speed skating is exactly what we hoped for.
